Prayer Practice: Family Prayer Time (Hora Somni)

Prayer Practice: Family Bedtime (Hora Somni)

Not a traditional hour… but an important one in our family.
(I actually made up its name....)
It is a simple, single practice done as a group before bed:
·      Sunday – Prayer Beads
·      Monday – Centering Prayer
·      Tuesday – Bible Story Reading
·      Wednesday – Prayers of the People (sharing Joys and Concerns, taking turns praying, etc.) with Confession
·      Thursday – Centering Prayer or Prayer Beads
·      Friday – Prayers of the People (sharing Joys and Concerns, taking turns praying, etc.) with Confession
·      Saturday – Listening to Spiritual Music/Singing (this can be done live, but more often than not we simply make use of a YouTube playlist, or something similar)

We are not rigid with the rotation, and will change it as needed, or adopt different practices for special nights, holidays, etc. Nonetheless, we have found adding this simple, non-historic hour to our family’s schedule at bed-time has been a wonderful gift from God to all of us.
